Disability Access Certificate (DAC) Applications:

The Disability Access Certificate (DAC) process was introduced through SI 351 of 2009, in order to improve compliance of buildings with Part M of the Building Regulations, currently Part M 2010. The current Part M 2010 provides for access for all user types not just for people with disabilities (both physical and cognitive) but for older people and parents with young children etc.

A Disability Access Certificate is a certificate granted by a Building Control Authority which certifies compliance of the design of certain works, other than dwellings (but including apartment buildings) and certain works (as set out in Article 20 D (1) of SI 351), to which the Requirements of Part M apply and which works commenced on or after 1 January 2010.
Knapton Consulting Engineers have prepared over 75 successful Disability Access Certificate applications to date on a wide range of building types including Hotel, Cinema, Hospital, Factory, Shopping Centre, Apartment, Nursing Home, School, and Crèche.

Knapton Consulting Engineers have built up excellent relationships with most local building control authorities in Ireland over the past 14 years and are able to negotiate on key issues especially in relation to existing buildings/protected structures which are unable to achieve Building Regulation Compliance. Knapton Consulting Engineers have been successful in agreeing a range of mitigation measures with Building Control authorities to comply with functional requirements of the Building Regulations where a Technical Guidance Document requirement can not be fully complied with.

Access Audits
Knapton Consulting Engineers can provide consultancy services to deliver access strategies to comply with the requirements of Disability Act 2005, Building Control Act 1990-2007, Equal Status and Employment Equality Legislation.
Access Audits can also be carried out for any type of building to determine the level of access for both the approach and the interior of a building and to identify if services can be  accessed by all users including people with disabilities (physical, sensory and cognitive), older people and parents with young children etc.
